The Day of the African Child is celebrated every year on 16th June by Members’ States of the African Union (AU) and its partners. This occasion is a commemoration to recall the 1976 uprisings in Soweto, when a protest by school children in South Africa against Apartheid – inspired education resulted in the public killing of these unarmed young protesters by police officials.
This year’s theme was ‘Accelerating our collective efforts to end child marriage in Africa’.
It was to mobilize the Government, non-governmental organizations, community groups, individuals and build the capacities and competencies of men, boys and entire communities towards the
eradicating child marriage in Africa.
The organization invited all the Karungu Ward and Gwassi South stakeholders to the occasion.
