PROJECT ON PREVENTION AND CONTROL OF HIV/AIDS.
Following the current situation on the spread of HIV/AIDS and its effects on the people along the lake Victoria region (Homa Bay dioceses), St Camillus Mission Hospital, realises that it is necessary and very urgent to promote and extend prevention activities all over the region.
A project, AWAKE prevention and control of HIV/AIDS was therefore initiated with intentions of offering educational programmes to learning institutions, churches and church organisations, fish traders, track drivers and the entire community.
The project aims at building capacity in individuals, families, and the whole population under coverage on prevention and control of HIV/AIDS infection. This will promote proper understanding, knowledge and raising the awareness on HIV/AIDS, thus developing quality of life, promoting human dignity and human rights.
To meet all the groups the team is contacting the decision makers of each group presenting them the project and organise them for trainings. The trainings are ment to build capacity on individuals, families and the community at large on facts about HIV/AIDS, human sexuality and communication in relations to HIV infection.
The project also aims at raising awareness and positive thinking about people living with HIV/AIDS and work in collaboration with the networking team so as to reduce discrimination and stigmatisation of the infected people.
To achieve this success the prevention team is to monitor the progress of the work in each organisation, institution or community through action plans. The team has to update them by sending brochures and current relevant information on HIV/AIDS. This body has to coordinate with related state agencies and NGOs to send them more information or conduct some of the trainings thus making this encounter a learning process.
