A CONSTITUENT OF ST. CAMILLUS M. HOSPITAL

The Kadem TB Clinic and Leprosy Clinic CCC is a PEPFAR implementing site funded by KCCB- ACTS through St. Camillus Hospital in Karungu. This partnership between St. Camillus and Kadem TB began in 2009 to make HIV care more accessible to people living on the Tanzanian border and beyond.

At the end of December 2023, there were 1,434 active patients in care and treatment. The project has employed 17 staff working in different departments: Clinical, PMTCT, pharmacy, Adherence, Health records management, Laboratory, and HIV testing Service Providers.

The TB outpatient clinic managed to test 61 positives and all of them were linked to care at the facility. Further, Kadem is popular for TB and Leprosy services in the Western Kenya region. After screening at every point including the community, a total of 64 TB-positive cases were confirmed and enrolled for management.

PMTCT services are also doing well with an enrollment of 145 clients with no child who turned positive. They are also offered outreach services at Masara and Ongonge every month.

The viral load uptake is at 97% with a suppression rate of 96%. The facility’s monthly support supervision is conducted by the Nyatike Sub County Health Management Team (SCHMT)is reported to be 97% with a suppression rate of 96%. At the facility, monthly supervision is conducted by Nyatike Sub County and Health Management Team (SCHMT). Quarterly, a similar exercise is done by KCCB-ACTS either separately or as a joint venture. Kadem also had a SIMS visit by the CDC team and the last one was done in the month of November 2021.

To ensure that the infrastructure is updated, St. Camillus helped renovate the health care furniture and equipment during the month of October, as requested by KCCB-ACTS.

We thank God for the milestones achieved at Kadem TB and Leprosy clinic. Sincere appreciation goes out to the Congregation of the Ivrea Sisters and all other partners, including the community in which the facility is located, for the success of this life-saving venture. As the data reveals, one day the threat of HIV will be greatly reduced, if not completely eradicated.
